That Sound

You know that sound….

Only the first thing you notice
Is the absence of noise
That ever-present white noise
That accompanies you on ever ride
But…  then it’s gone
Sometimes you don’t notice it right away
Maybe it’s because you were shifting
The gear too easy all of a sudden
The flick of the shifter
A derailleur moves slightly

You are going faster
And it feels easier
Then the sound…
That gentle hiss of tires on pavement
And you know…  it’s confirmed
You have a tailwind
helping you along
You really don’t care
because you are flying; Uninhibited…
It’s what riding a bike is all about

I love, when you plan your ride right, you head out in a headwind and come home in a tail wind, then brag how you negative split the ride and how strong you felt the second half of it!!

And then you turn around and you hear a different sound....only this one comes out of your mouth and contains many different 4 letter words ;)
